William Greaves (1852-1938) was born in Leeds and studied at Sheffield College of Art. He travelled and exhibited widely at galleries including the Royal Academy, Royal Cambrian Academy, Manchester and Liverpool. He worked mostly in oils and his subjects include landscapes in and around Wharfedale in Yorkshire and Sherwood Forest in Nottinghamshire.
"The Road to the Village" is an oil painting on board measuring 7"x 10". It is signed lower left and is framed in a good old gilt frame giving an overall size of 11"x 14". A charming example of the work of William Greaves.
