William Gilbert Foster (1855-1906) was a British painter. A senior member of the Staithes group of artists, he had a studio at Runswick Bay for many years. He painted landscapes and rural genre in oil and watercolours. Exhibited regularly at the British Royal Academy of Arts and at the Royal society of British Artists.
The present painting "Gathering Firewood" is a watercolour measuring 8"x 12". It is signed lower right and dated (19)03, and is in a good period gilt frame giving an overall size of 14"x 18".
