William Greaves (1852-1938) was born in Leeds and studied at Sheffield College of Art. He travelled and exhibited widely at galleries including the Royal Academy, Royal Cambrian Academy, Manchester and Liverpool. He worked mostly in oils and his subjects include landscapes in and around Wharfedale in Yorkshire and Sherwood Forest in Nottinghamshire.
"Gathering Watercress, Kilham near Bridlington" is an oil painting on board measuring 14"x 10". It is signed lower right and is framed in a hand made English frame finished in gold leaf, giving an overall size of 19"x 15".
