Hilda Elizabeth Kidman (1891-1980) was a painter and illustrator, born near Hitchin, Hertfordshire. She was especially noted for her flower paintings, animal pictures and children, and won an Hon. Mention at the Paris Salon. Kidman studied at the Slade School of Fine Art under Henry Tonks, Philip Wilson Steer and Walter Westley Russell, Frank Calderon’s School of Animal Painting and St John’s Wood School of Art. Her pictures occasionally appeared on the covers of women’s magazines. Exhibited RA, RP, SWA and RSA. Lived in Hitchin.
"Midday Rest" is an oil painting on canvas measuring 18"x 22". It is signed lower left and is dated 1911.

An inscription on the back gives the title, date and other information including "Midday Rest, 1st picture of Hilda Kidman hung at Royal Academy".
