Percy Lancaster (1878-1951) was born in Manchester. He studied architecture before taking up painting, studying at the Southport and Manchester Schools of Art. He was elected an Associate of the Royal Society of Painter-Etchers and Engravers in 1910. Four years later he was made a full member of the Royal Society of British Artists and in 1921, member of the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours.

He exhibited in many of the major institutions and galleries in the UK, including works at the Royal Academy, the Royal Society of Painters, Etchers and Engravers, The Fine Art Society, Liverpool  the Royal Cambrian Academy and The RBA.

"The Church on the Hill" is a watercolour measuring 9"x 13". It is signed lower right and is dated (19)20. It is framed giving an overall size of 20"x 24".
