William Greaves (1852-1938) was born in Leeds and studied at Sheffield College of Art. He travelled and exhibited widely at galleries including the Royal Academy, Royal Cambrian Academy, Manchester and Liverpool. He worked mostly in oils and his subjects include landscapes in and around Wharfedale in Yorkshire and Sherwood Forest in Nottinghamshire.
"At Cley Next the Sea" is an oil painting on board by Greaves showing a view at Cley Next the Sea in Norfolk. It measures 10"x 14" and is signed lower left and dated October 1912. It is framed in a quality gilt frame giving an overall size of 15"x 19".
