William Cave Day was a painter of genre and landscapes in oils and watercolours. Born in Dewsbury. Studied in Paris and Herkomer’s School in Bushey. Elected RBA in 1903. He lived in Harrogate and painted many views of Knaresborough and other local subjects. Exhibited frequently at the RBA and occasionally at the RA. He later moved to Cornwall.
The present painting "Near St. Ives" is an oil on panel measuring 13"x 9". It is signed lower left and is framed giving an overall size of 18"x 15".
