Born in Bradford, Yorkshire in 1868, Rigg studied at Bradford College of Art then at the renowned Académie Julian in Paris. His attractive open air scenes were in the manner of French late nineteenth century painting. He exhibited at RA, RBA, Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool and elsewhere, working in many parts of England. He was a prominent member of the Staithes Group and later lived for a time in Letchworth, Hertfordshire.

"Under the Moon's Soft Silver Gaze" is a lovely atmospheric oil painting on board measuring 9" x 12". It shows a view at the artist's home at Paradise, Swaledale, Yorkshire and is signed lower right. It is framed in a quality gilt frame giving an overall size of 14"x 18".
