Born in Bradford, Yorkshire in 1868, Rigg studied at Bradford College of Art then at the renowned Académie Julian in Paris. His attractive open air scenes were in the manner of French late nineteenth century painting. He exhibited at RA, RBA, Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool and elsewhere, working in many parts of England. He was a prominent member of the Staithes Group and later lived for a time in Letchworth, Hertfordshire.

"Swaledale in Winter" is a lovely quality example of the artists sought after snow scenes. Measuring 11"x 14" it is signed lower right and is framed in a good period frame giving an overall size of 18"x 22".
