Donald Wood was born in 1889. He worked mostly in his native Yorkshire but also travelled and exhibited widely including works at the Royal Academy, Royal Institute, Liverpool and the Royal Scottish Academy. His subjects include landscapes and portraits but he was best known for his paintings and drawings of animals and country subjects which were of a very high quality. "Polo Ponies" is an excellent example. An oil on canvas measuring 20"x 24", it is signed lower right and is framed in a good hand finished English gilt frame giving an overall size of about 30" x 34".
