McTague of Harrogate was opened in 1981 by Paul McTague who has run the gallery since with help and advice from family members Melanie, Emma and Robert. From an early age Paul was brought up surrounded by pictures and artists. This sowed the seed of interest which has grown into his current involvement with pictures. Paul’s late father George was an artist, lecturer, restorer and art historian with a vast knowledge of all periods and schools of art. In the early years help from George and Paul’s mother Norah gave the McTague Gallery a firm foundation. In the 30+ years since it opened Paul has also had welcome support and advice from his brothers and sisters Teresa, Peter, Michael, Eileen, Moira and Fiona. Moira is an established painter/printmaker of merit, Fiona is a knitwear designer and Paul’s nephew Richard now runs a Modern Art Gallery next door to the McTague Gallery: Red House Originals has quickly become an important addition to the Harrogate Art Gallery scene.

McTague of Harrogate specialise in quality traditional paintings and rare prints including oil paintings and watercolours of Yorkshire and the North East. They also deal in rare antique prints including country, sporting and animal prints, decorative engravings in old frames, etchings, and views and maps of Yorkshire.

We are always interested in buying fine quality examples of the above.
