Eduard Veith (Austrian, born 1836) created the paintings on the ceiling of the Maria Theresia Room in the Hofburg, the Dianabad in Vienna, the Neues Deutsches Theater in Prague and many other theatres. He was also popular as a painter of portraits of women. From 1890 onwards he was a member of the Wiener Künstlerhaus. In 1911 he married Bertha Griesbeck and in 1920 he became a professor. He died in 1925. The present picture is a Chromolithograph dating from about 1900 and is signed on the plate lower right. It measures 14"x 22" and is in the magnificent original oak and gilded frame giving an overall size of 26"x 34".
