Franklin White was born in Australia in 1892. He moved to the U.K. in 1913 and two years later entered the Slade School as a student and later was invited to join the teaching staff where he remained until he retired in 1957. He then ran the Samuel Palmer School of Art which had been operating at his home in Shoreham since 1924. White exhibited widely and his work is held in permanent collections such as The British Museum, The Victoria and Albert Museum, The Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, The Birmingham City Museum and Art Gallery, The Laing Gallery, Newcastle, and The National Gallery of Australia, Melbourne. This charming watercolour is a lovely example of his work. It is signed lower left and is mounted and framed giving an overall size of 17"x 19".
