“Footpath in the Wood, Meanwood, Nr. Leeds”

William Greaves (1852-1938) was born in Leeds and studied at Sheffield College of Art. He travelled and exhibited widely at galleries including the Royal Academy, Royal Cambrian Academy, Manchester and Liverpool. He worked mostly in oils and his subjects include landscapes in and around Wharfedale in Yorkshire and Sherwood Forest in Nottinghamshire. The present picture is an oil on board measuring 9"x 7". It is signed lower right, dated (18)76 and is framed in a hand made gilt frame giving an overall size of 14"x 11". On the reverse is the title "Footpath in the Wood, Meanwood Nr. Leeds" in the artist's hand.
