“A Country Fair”

James William Booth R.Cam.A. was born in Manchester in 1867 and studied art at Manchester under E.M. Bancroft, later becoming a member of the Staithes Group. He is noted for his horse subjects, and living in Scarborough for many years, painted views along the Yorkshire Coast as well as horse fairs, ploughing scenes and quarry scenes. He exhibited prolifically at the Royal Cambrian Academy as well as other Yorkshire Galleries between 1896 and 1935. The present painting in an oil on canvas laid on board and measures 11"x 17". It is signed lower right and is in an old gilt frame giving an overall size of 17"x 23".
